It’s so easy to make bubble hash at home that there’s almost no reason not to give it a try. Of course, the investment is a lot of weed, but it’s next to impossible to screw up. This video is a step by step instructional on making your own, high-quality hash right in your kitchen. You don’t need too much equipment either. Almost everything you need is in your house or available in your local hardware store. Bubble hash refers to collecting hash from your weed (or trim) by submerging the weed in ice-cold water and agitating it. This causes trichomes to break off so you can collect them. You can also read our guide on how to make hash in general.

Why make Bubble Hash?

The perceived potency of bubble hash is just…great! In my opinion, it feels noticeably stronger than dry-sift, kief or dry-ice hash.
Bubble hash is safe to make since there are no flammable ingredients or chemical reactions when making it.
It’s also safe to enjoy as no chemicals are used during the extraction process.
It’s a great use of trim!

Some of the things you will need:

  • Bubble Bag
  • A large wooden spoon – if you plan to mix by hand; or
  • A kitchen mixer (For a perfect mix every time, we recommend the Bubble Now machine – gentle mixing is very important for a top quality end product!)
  • A bucket -the size will vary depending on what gallon size kit you have
  • A spoon
  • Ice and water

PREP:

1.Place your bags into your bucket. The first bag to go in is the 25µ bag. It is the smallest micron bag, and often the full melt bag for sativa strains.

2.The second bag, the 45µ bag. This bag produces a very nice grade of herbal extract. When used with certain types of plant material, comes out blonde to white.

3.The third bag, 73µ, often called the full melt bag. If your bubble is going to bubble, it’s often found here first.

4.The 120µ bag! Makes a nice grade of bubble.

5.The 160µ bag. Sometimes very nice when used with a dominant indica variety with large glands, or it can clean contaminant out of your 120µ and 73µ bags.

6.The 190µ bag. It pulls most of the contaminant out of the final product, and that’s why we use it all the time.

7. The final bag, the 220µ work bag. This is the last bag to be placed in your bucket.

That is the conclusion of part 1, for a seven bag kit. If you have a 3 bag kit or an 8 bag kit, you would just place them in the bucket in the same order – from smallest micron size to largest.
Ok, now that we have added the last bag, it is time to put our water in the bucket.

BUBBLE HASH COLLECTION:

Add your dry or frozen plant trimmings.
Add enough ice to almost fill your bucket to the top.
Stir your mix for 15 to 20 minutes, adding ice if necessary to keep the water cold. A 50/50 mix of ice and water is ideal.
Pull out your Bubble Bags one by one, draining them into the bucket.
Once you have cleared most of the contaminants from the mixture in the first two bags, you will start to have Bubble Hash collecting on your bags.
Once drained, you can fold each bag at the bottom to allow all of the hash to pile up. Scrape off the hash with a cold spoon. Keep them separate and label the size of the micron screen.
Gently press the excess moisture out of your herbal extract using your pressing screen and a dish towel.
Allow bubble hash to dry overnight near a dehumidifier.

Some Research on Brands

A lot of bubble bags on the market at the same. They’re the same colors and the same material. What you’re looking for above all is durability. Bubble bags can take a beating. This is especially true if you do the dry ice method. You’re taking bubble bags and throwing them upside down. From there, you shake them around. As Missy Elliott would say, you put your thing down, flip it, and reverse it. This can easily cause seams to rip. So, you want a durable bubble bag that fits snuggly around the mouth of the bucket you’re using. Other than that, there are a few nuanced characteristics that separate bubble bags from one another.

Bubble Bag Dude

The world-famous original bubble bags, The Bubble Bag Dude bubble bags are sturdily designed bags that will help you easily make your own bubble hash at home.
Made in the USA, these durable bubble bags last long and don’t flake out like some of the cheaper options available on the market. Bubble Bag Dude bubble bags are easy to clean and reuse again and again. Bubble Bag Dude has been in the business for over 9 years producing quality hash making products.
The large-meshed screen bags are used for simple filtering, while the smaller mesh bags are used to collect the potent extract or hash. Some people only use 3 of the bags for basic hash making, while others use all five to get different qualities of clean, fine hash. It comes with a free 25-micron pressing screen and a free carrying bag.

As I mentioned above, some kits come with up to 8 bubble bags.  The iPower 5 Gallon Extractor bubble bags break down as followed:
Blue: 220 microns
Green: 190 microns
Red: 160 microns
Orange: 120 microns
Black: 90 microns
Yellow: 73 microns
Silver: 45 microns
Dark Blue: 25 microns

What’s particularly nice about this set is that it comes with a black carrier bag that you can place all of the other bubble bags into. The carrier bag comes with a drawstring, making for easy portability of this set of bubble bags. Speaking of drawstrings, while these bags don’t fit perfectly around the mouth of the bucket, they do come with drawstrings. That makes these bags easier to fasten around the bucket, making it almost a guarantee of one-size-fits-all.

While this may sound like these are a better deal than the original, Bubble Bag Dude, these bags aren’t known to feel as sturdy. Also, cleaning them out isn’t as easy. The canvas material is a little thicker in texture, making it harder to hold them down to clean out properly after use.
